About the event

This 45-minute interactive social media presentation is intended for 5th – 8th grade students. It is delivered by Gabrielle Fontana and a graduate student. The goal of the presentation is to build emotional resilience while using social media. The topics covered are:

  • Discussion of emotions & resilience
  • What is social media
  • Positives and negatives of social media
  • Explore Snapchat and how the app can become a chore
  • What are other ways to measure friendship quality
  • Explore Instagram and a "perfect post"
  • Tips to reduce screen time
  • Suggestions/strategies if you find yourself struggling.

At the end of the presentation, the presenters share their personal favorite coping skills and provide journals to students who want them.
